Fightin' Irish Fightin' Cancer

This spring we will be hosting our eighth Notre Dame Relay for Life, “Fightin’ Irish – Fightin’ Cancer,” on campus to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Celebrate – Opening Ceremony and Survivors Lap – 6:00pm Friday
The fun starts at the very beginning! All aspects of the University come together during the Opening Ceremony to embrace Relay for Life and make a difference in the fight against cancer. The Survivors Lap is an inspirational time when survivors and caregivers are invited to circle the upper concourse together and help everyone celebrate the victories we’ve achieved over cancer. The Survivors Lap is an emotional example of how Relay participants are creating a world with more birthdays like those of each individual on the track.

Remember – The Luminaria Ceremony – 9:30pm Friday
Participants gather in the stands of the Stadium as we honor people who have been touched by cancer and remember loved ones lost to the disease during the Luminaria Ceremony. Candles are lit inside bags filled with sand, each one bearing the name of a person touched by cancer, and participants walk a lap in silence around the upper concourse.

Fight Back – The Closing Ceremony – 8:00am Saturday
The Closing Ceremony celebrates the accomplishments, success, camaraderie and efforts of the team captains, participants, and committee. The grand total of dollars raised is announced. All individuals are invited to participate in the final lap.
